April is Rosacea Awareness Month

Happy Spring! As we usher in the beautiful warm weather, we are inspired to purge our rooms of clutter, organize our calendars, and turn over our wardrobes in favor of lighter, breezy fabrics. Part of that Spring Cleaning can be directed to our skin care routines, as well, and can involve special attention to erasing the effects of harsh cold weather exposure, rehydration of thirsty skin, and preparing for the warm weather glow.
This month, we celebrate Rosacea Awareness by providing skin care strategies to reduce the flushing and thickening of rosacea-prone skin. These strategies can be used for all types of sensitive skin, including aged or acne-prone, so everyone can benefit!
In addition to my prescription-grade skin care line, tR(x)i, I offer an amazing 3-in-1 treatment that addresses the redness, thickened texture, and inflammation of rosaceic skin, revealing healthy, beautiful skin underneath. You will find skin that not only looks good, but FEELS amazing! For those that suffer from ocular rosacea, characterized by dry, gritty eyes, eyelid redness and styes, IPL laser treatment is a very effective solution to bring much needed moisture and irritation relief. Read on for more information about rosacea, which is very prevalent in the Midwest.
Cheers to Spring,
Rosacea is a common skin condition that affects over 16 million Americans, characterized by episodic/persistent flushing of the face. It can cause redness on the face, enlarged blood vessels and veins, small, swollen bumps, and a burning sensation. While the cause of rosacea is unknown, flare ups may be caused by:
- Alcohol
- Extreme temperatures
- Sun
- Stress
- Medications that dilate blood vessels
- Cosmetic products
People between the ages of 30-50 with skin that burns easily in the sun, a history of smoking, and/or a family history of rosacea are most at risk. It mainly impacts women and those with fair skin. The condition is common for people of English, Irish, and northern European backgrounds, so there is high incidence of rosacea in New England, the Midwest, and other locations with concentrations of these ethnicities. There is no cure, but diagnosis and treatment can reduce symptoms.
The four main types of Rosacea:
- Erythematotelangiectatic: Persistent facial redness, enlarged blood vessels
- Papulopustular: Fluid-filled pimples, similar to acne, form on the face
- Phymatous: Swollen, thickened skin; bulbous nose
- Ocular: Irritated eyes, stye formation
In recognition of Rosacea Awareness Month, The Rawal Institute offers a variety of treatments to restore skin health.
Rosacea Kit (40% discount this month): A skincare bundle that targets redness and inflammation, restores your skin’s barrier and moisture.
